If you’re visiting San Antonio (or Texas for that matter) for the first time you probably want to know one thing; “Where do I find the best tacos?” There are thousands of places to get great tacos in San Antonio, but if you’re looking for a local favorite, Taquitos West Avenue is the place to go. Located at 2818 West Avenue, Taquitos West Avenue offers a variety of tacos like lengua, bistek, cabeza, suadero, al pastor, and tripas. You can learn more about those thanks to this great article by The Daily Meal.
For someone unaccustomed to the traditional Mexican taco, the idea of eating tongue or small intestines may be downright terrifying. However, since we only live once, I recommend giving these delicacies a try. After all, these are local favorites for a reason. When I recently visited with a friend, we had the tacos al pastor, lengua, and suadero. My personal favorite are the Tacos Al Pastor.
The experience is straight-forward. You begin by ordering at a counter where someone will warm the tortillas and top them with the meat of your choice. You can add cilantro and onion if you wish, which is my preference. Fountain drinks are not an option but can sodas, bottled sodas, and water are available for purchase. I recommend a Mexican Coca Cola or Topo Chico if you want a truly local experience.
You can opt to dine in or out, but inside dining is limited, so you’re better off choosing one of the picnic tables outside unless you’re alone or with only one other person.
